Plush Hippo | Plush Hippopotamus
Plush Hippopotamus Facts:
The humongous plush hippopotamus is the third largest living land mammal and resides in Africa. The plush hippo has a massive body on four short legs. Each of their feet have four webbed toes that evenly distributes the hippos weight. Their thick grayish armored like skin alone can weigh up to 1,000 thousand pounds. The plush hippos have no hair on their entire body except a few whiskers around their mouth and at the end of their tail.
The plush hippo has an adorable appearance, but never attempt to get to close because they are the most aggressive and dangerous of all land mammals. The plush hippopotamus is a social creature but loves fighting other hippos. They will roar, chase, yawn really big, and scoop water in their mouths to warn off enemies. They use their huge razor-sharp canines up to twenty inches long when fighting, creating an unsafe environment. Almost all plush hippos have proof of old fights due to scars and some have daily deep wounds due to daily fighting.
The plush hippo loves living in groups from anywhere between 10 and 200 hippos. Plush hippos spend all of their daylight hours wallowing in shallow water. They have definitely adapted for living their daily lives in water due to having a set of built in goggles to allow them to see underwater. They also have small ears and nostrils at the top of their head to hear and breathe well, while mostly submerged in water. A plush hippopotamus loves the water but cannot float due to their enormous size. However they slowly gallop through the water lightly touching their toes on the bottom like a ballet dancer. This is where the name plush Hippopotamus comes from due to the Greek meaning “river horse.” However, a plush hippo is more related to a pig than a horse.
During the night time, plush hippos will come up on land and start eating near by grass for up to six hours. They will eat up to 90 pounds of food every night. Their diet includes grass and nearby fallen fruit. They usually find all their food close to the water. This is important because the plush hippo can not stay out of the water for too long or it can become dehydrated.
